The US Supreme Court has just upheld a ban by President Donald Trump on travel to the US from seven countries: North Korea, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia and Venezuela. The ruling comes after months of challenges to Trump's executive order on immigration, which previously targeted only Muslim-majority countries, which was denounced as xenophobic. But the ban has been finally allowed to stand by the Supreme Court, which rejected arguments that it represented unconstitutional religious discrimination. Civil rights groups and Democrats denounced the ruling.

The travel ban primarily targets majority-Muslim nations but the White House rejects claims it's anti-Muslim and is motivated by national security concerns. Critics of the travel ban feel it unfairly targets Muslim countries and argue it's motivated by anti-Muslim sentiments, citing statements and tweets from Trump.

According to RIF TRUST Investments LLC, the Dubai-based citizenship-by-investment leader in the GCC, Residency by Investment Visa applications has increased in the Middle East region by 47% during 2018 comparing to the first semester of the last year amongst Arab families.

As Mimoun Assraoui, CEO of Rif Trust explains: "The main reasons that are driving people from certain nationalities to apply for a second passport is without hesitation an access to freedom of travel: poor mobility rights are for some nationalities a real disadvantage since there are some passports in ranking that have access to less than 50 countries, when by contrast other passports obtained through citizenship by investment give access to 149 countries”.

"With the reality of the US travel ban, many families are looking for longer terms options where they can live and settle down. The majority of our clients from the Middle East region come to us because they want to secure their family future above all (crucial for countries in crisis situation), and also education and healthcare system. This is why from Rif Trust, we offer a tailor-made service suiting our client's best interest.”, adds David Regueiro, COO of Rif Trust.

The restrictions vary from country to country:
