Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is among several guests attending the first session of the East African Legislative Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.

Members are expected to be inaugurated, after which the Speaker will be elected.

Several countries among them Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania have shown interest in the Speaker post.

Kenya elected nine nominees to EALA which included Simon Mbugua, Florence Jematiah, Mpuri Aburi, Aden Noor and Wanjiku Muhia.

Other members are Oburu Odinga, Kennedy Kalonzo, Abdikadir Aden and Fatuma Ibrahim.

The new EALA Speaker will take over from Daniel Kidega.

They are expected to guide the Assembly over the next five years, taking it a notch higher in the integration dispensation.

During the interactions with other East Africa community members including Oburu and Sonko said it is time for leaders from all regions to work together since many things have changed.

"It’s time we should put politics aside and make sure we deliver to all other regions,” the Governor said.
