WASHINGTON, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The US Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the full implementation of a ban on travellers from six Muslim-majority countries namely Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, Italian news agency ANSA reported today.

The ban which the US President Donald Trump's administration has imposed - gained 7-2 ruling by the high court - means that the ban can be fully implemented.

The ruling on Monday was the first in which the Supreme Court - which was involved multiple times - has allowed the full enforcement of the measure, although many cases against it are still pending in courts across the US.

The ruling does not imply that the supreme court has accepted as constitutional the ban, which is part of Trump's agenda to maintain 'border security' to fight terror and crime, but that it finds convincing the administration's position that an emergency injunction against it was not necessary.

The high court still has to rule on the ban's merits and whether it contrasts with constitutional protections against discrimination in the next few months.

The ban marked Trump's controversial debut as president when in January he signed an executive order banning travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries and suspending the arrival of refugees.

Protests and legal actions ensued, forcing the administration to present a second, revised version of the ban in March.

After a partial green light from the Supreme Court in June, which imposed a third draft of the ban, the high court has now allowed its enforcement.
